I owe to Person I met or Read = to Academic Knowledge!

The Title of Aladinsane PhD thesis and subject of this talk, revisit the magnetism/structure correlation (from the vast angle provided PHENOMENOLOGICALLY by the many phases in competition in prototype Pr1-xCaxMnO3 manganites.
The Discussion that I make in His thesis, delineates an alternative between the historically accepeted and semi-empirical ionic Mn3+/Mn4+ charge ordering (CO) scenario (Goodenough), and modern theoretical band insulator scenario promotted by the doubly-degenerated double exchange model - (D)DDEX (See Dagotto, for a review, and Effremov/Khomski, for the specific case of Pr1/2Ca1/2MnO3). Typically, SET IN THE HAZE BETWEEN localized and itinerant electron bheaviour, WHERE YOU MUST BE THE MOST CRITIC about Validity of the Theory/Exp agreement.

Magnetic exchange topology in the new ZP scenario that I advocate since 2002, simply comes from readapting the Goodenough-Kanamori-Anderson (GKA) rules for Superexchange (SE) to a new STRUCTURAL Symetry, because that structure, though bond valence arguments discard ionic CO on Mn atoms, YET it does reflects a molecular-orbital order of localised charges localised beyond the atomic level, in Mn pairs... yet to be clarified. In the thesis, the occupancy of Mn in the molecular orbital was NOT explicitely given: octahedral elongations were suggesting a dz2 character. Full occupancy having been almost simultaneously supported by Hartree-Fock ab-intio calculations, this has permitted the publication of a subsequent elegant clarification of what those molecular states could be, justifying the straightforward use of GKA rules. Minimal, or so-called TOY DDDEX modeled originally a Mn-Mn => topological-insulator, and started to add polaronic and or steric effects and/or oxygens in the problem only after. ZP ordering rich structural phenomenology (new symetry, combined JT-like distortion and steric effects, mixed valence), is a better guide to clarifiy the CE state ab initio!

However, ZP ordering crystallographic model upsetted so much all the supporter of the known Mn3+/M4+ ionic ordering scheme, that they've litterally blanked out what's revealed ab-initio quite straightforwardly: ZP ordering may reflect another type of ionic order involving Oxygen Holes difining a New (local) form of Double exchange! In other words, bond valence calculation are misleading: in reality, all Mn keep the same 3+ valence and are orbitally ordered, the charge balance is insured by an O2-/O- order whereby O- transmit a ferromagntic interaction between Mn associated into Zener pairs indicating a local single p-d charge transfer (retrospectively Aladinsane's own original wording of the Mn pair as a "Zener polaron", or local double-exchange (DE), being therefore misleading). The combined experiemtal/ theoretical approach brings therefore an heuristic idea that's been ignored by ALL the Scientific community for UNSPEAKABLE reasons.

Because the ZP model, includes the idea of Oxygen Hole, is building the charge order upon a fully Mn3+ orbital ordered structure, the alternative charge ordering picture can rather straighforwardly be used together relying on the known Goudenough-Kanamory-Anderson (GKA) Super exchange rules, so it offer an alternative model of magnetic exchange for the CE-state at half-doping and eventually, permit the heuristic construction of models at all composition.

yet ignoring/clueless about the connection to the magnetism/magnetic exchange!

The crystallographic+ab-initio+GKA inspired NOVEL magnetic/structure correlation related to ZP ordering at half-doping has been cited ONLY twice since its publication in 2004, including one self-citation by myself, which shows how low has been its visibility; its generalisation to other compositions than x=1/2, as advocated here, is forming a Theory, that seems to bring an unprecedented consistency to interpret phenomena beyond half-doping. Such understanding under construction, germ for a refined conception of the physics, has been hindered by the extremely popular but polemic i.e ostracised! seminal determination of ZP ordering structure.

What has mainly masked its importance, is that the seminal structural work on which it is based, has been made by the scientific community a very polemic problem leading to an endless experimental debate of the validity of the "ZP ordering" structure systematically adressed with the a-priori belief that ZP ordering is the (wrong) outsider model AT x=0,5, in a way that the magnetism aspects have been simply not dealt with (Excuse his French: the title of A. Daoud-Aladine thesis was "Correlation entre structure et Magnétisme dans les Mangfanites à Ordre de charges").

ESPECIALLY!!! Inelastic neutron scattering (INS), which is a-priori the best way to check the validity of the whole picture (magnetic exchange part of the magneti/structure correlation and Symetry) since INS is the RARE experimental technique that can extract magnetic exchange constants at the microscopic level. However during 10 years, not a single published INS work has ever adressed the exchange model properly (I insist: a published work), and what is discussed below explains why: INS works have DESPISED the ViewPoint (God know what "My Crystal Eyes!" witnessed!) even more than experimental studies that have disputed the structure and most of them IGNORED it.

INS studies of single layered, and bi-layered half-doped manganites and ULTIMATELLY, 3D PCMO50 of the CMR Pr-Ca system are the three cannonical examples all those INS studies have discarded "ZP ordering" only because of an arbitrary preconception the model is wrong or irrelevant, with largely overlooked arguments/analyses or refusal to adapt its symmetry (for the case of layered componds)... They all rely on MODERN DDDEX model (Khomskii, Daggoto) of the CE-state, BUT THEY LIE, WHEN THEY VERBOSE THATBEING CONSISTENT with "the SEMINAL Goodenough model" (ionic order+superexchange): the confusion making amalgam of the two antagonist conceptions, is due to the fact they both have the same symetry; HOWEVER, DDEX and Goodenough are in reality to opposite conceptions in Strongly correlated electron systems, corresponding to localised to itinerant descrition of the electronic structure (the most elusive aspect of the problme)! and the need to add longer range Feromagnetic interaction to model spi wave spectra, implicitely favor the BAND, DDEX description, DISCARDING the ionic CO of the Goodenough model! What authors in fact achieve, motivated solely by instrument advertisement, is a doubly overrated agreement based in reality, on a (misconcieved) Theoretical view and... impossible to assess Experimental Methods, hiding a deep misunderstanding of the Subject.

In truth, what applies to all existing INS analyses of compounds showing the CE-type magnetic structureis that they cannot cope with the model degeneracy of exchange mmodels built on a 8-fold cubic cell (the Charge ordered super cell), and added the long rage F interaction from phenomenological grounds (whereby the charge is delocalised along the zizzag). They added Super-super-exchange pathways to the 1st Neighbor Goodennough model to adjust their data, and that mimics the DDEX model, hence discard the Goodennough model!

INS Studies hence all largely overlooked the model degeneracy between ZP and Goodenoug original Charge Ordered scenari, with different symmetries and/or charges involed (Mn-3d, or oxygen-2p, resp) . Starting form each competing symmetries (site or bond centred), there are 4 in plane Super-super-exchange pathways, therefore, there are in theory 2^4=16 such models, for each 1st neigbor exchange model considered which structural arguments can hardly constrain as easily, as for 1st neighbors interactions... which is why, knowledge and application of the known Goodenough Kanamory rules is essential.

- Model degeneracy is an inherent hurdle for INS and requires Conceptual = Physical constrains to deal with the CE state. Crystallography is free of that hurdle: no Model a priori! (two model/symmetry to test: the challenge, here is the parameter data ratio, achieved by SX-ND : powder diffraction is NOT good enough!)
- Not a single INS work started from the 1st neigbors models matching the sign and constrains imposed by the published ZP symmetry,CENSORING the JMMM-ZP readaptation of the GKA (rules & structure/symetry constraints) therefore discarding ZP ordering (the interpretation of that symetry) not only with STRICTLY NO VALID SCIENTIFIC ARGUMENT but using fallacious = misunderstood + falsified structural information!
- In the case of PCMO50, after the bilayer PCSMO studied because twinning is 3 times simpler, sold and symmetry better established, with a completely overrated QUALITATIVE data treatement of crystal twinning the falsified experiement gets straightforwardly! ...
- because the loose analysis, is combined with a completely CONFUSED use of the heuristic GKA rules, and that is (unadmittedly) because the INS authors' obsession always has been to match their discussion / argumentation to the DDDEX Toy model ONLY (Khomskii - NATURE and previous bi-layer work) without making too much waves against Goodenough which as said, they in fact INSULT by supporting a competing DDEX (from the Charge Ordering view point!)! doing so! and never ever considered the Key Exchange symmetry (because it 's published in no impact fator journals?): !!!
- Remarkably also, the original "unambiguous" discard of ZP (agreed in the collaborative proposal!) became 4 years after "subtle" in the 3D PCMO50 showing how strong the author doubt about themselves! in publication in fact rejecting the COMPLETE ZP Heuristic:

The Talk summarises the conceptual mistake (i.e redhibitory failure that should never have been submitted!), establishing the ultimate fallacious connection of orbital ordering to magnetic exchange, which ALL INS specialists worldwide who missed the ZP symmetry made. In 3D PCMO50, it is is the "generalisation" of fig 1) c) in the fig 1) d) which is in fact an unadmited failed attempt to correct fig 1) c) coming fro Grahame Johnston/A.Boothroy collaboration with T. PErring that I have told them to be WRONG in Dec 2012: there year later, in 2014, it becomes in the PCMO study, i quote, a "purelely phenomenological" exchange model for which "the electronic structure or OO don matter!!!", in fact, that's to verbose & copy ina model comming in this bi-layered half-doped manganites and inspired from Braden's group = previous INS work dealt without imagination, to adapt the ZP model of 3D perovskites, to a 2D materials with CE maggnetic structure) into fig 1) d) and that is an attempt to plagarise the JMMM-ZP (SO INCOMPETENTLOY, THIS HAS FAILED)!

...and (as the aim is to support DDEX unconditionalloy) finally apply GKA rules to what are implicitely half filled orbitals BANDS (i.e, to mobile electrons!) in a verbosing description wchich, regarding electronic structure aspect, use the less rigourous vocabulary you can ever find within exact Sciences (the orbital "ressemblance" to "the former" or "later" orbitals, labelled in their text diferently to the labelling of the DE theory cited if you look carefully!)... a narrative acheiving nothing else but a total confusion, to paint a discussion ALL with DDEX overrated lies - an support other portrayals = Betrayals! The "3rd & New Model" is not meant to generalise previous work, but to with corrections still failoing to get the True model expected from ZP ordering!

The authors hide they in reality work with serious a prioris in the modelling DUE TO A LACK OF SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE, by the worse ever possible argument : they re-appropriate the change of antiferromagnetic JA (fig. 1.c) into ferromagnetic JW2 (fig. 1.b) in between the lines by claiming a posteriori in the analysis, that anyway, the sign of that exchange parameter is not constrained in fits! which is the most laconic way to hide that the major problematic the CE-state is submitting to all (experimentalist & theorist) is the pitfall of model degeneracy; INS guys are not affraid of being intently stuck in a discourse mislead you by advocating local minima they choose wrongly - by misconcived parametrization! Its a Phatom! who "generalised" and thus INVISBLY "bridged" (their best NARRATIVE technique = fabricate lies around secrets!) the previous work memebers of the same group did on bi-layered half-doped manganites to that 3D PCMO50, by in fact incompetently taking you (in fact using pseudo-test models conceptually build using a priori, incompetently!) from one unphysical minima to another, not even realising that cheating in that race, the authors systematically missed the model with ZP-symmetry! so ipso facto, they done nothing - good enough, in Reality!!

That INS rip off of GKA by DDEX + its completely flawed exprimental INS test... is masking the incompetence of an experiementalist lacking culture, and not enough critic of the true level of the Phenomenological validity/consistency of theory/experimental agrement in the Subject not only by refusing to open constructive dissertations, but also by biasing/overrating the favored view point: e.g in contrary to what their abstract sate (and I hope any fair DDEX guy can agree), DDEX theories of the CE state have only wondered once or twice, away from half-doping.
BEYOND the semi-empirical GKA rules (where what's empiric, is brought by Goodenough and Kanamori, whilst the semi- i.e a proper calculation is brought by Anderson), modern DE toy models are simplified spin/ orbital/ electronic energy minimization band hamiltonians, which in fact, do NOT give and calculate the values of 1st neighbor Exchange constants needed to do INS, molecular/ad-initio methods can get!

- In this CONCEPTUAL context, Oxofrd+ISIS INS studies aim is to justify the DDEX Effremov/Khomski, because the authors are TAUGHT in ISIS TO: 1) believe Nature publications makes authority, AND 2) to advertise the superiority of their instrument. References to DDEX work using steric effects to get ZP as a way to pretend for completeness (the work of Picozzi at al, fairly motivated by the issue raised by ZPs), is just another conceptually flawed recuperation, that's covering up of this preconcieved fact :

Not only in that institute, WHERE THE IMPACTOR RULE... = EVERYWHERE! For that aim, it used the DDEX theory to "compute" teoretically a band insulator Multiferroic state away from 0,5 in of PCMO, tweaking the DDEX toy model parameters in order to enable orbital ordering without charge ordering, having an orbital symmetry that reconcile wiht ZP=non-centrosymmetry at x=0,4. In fact, that include preconceptions OF THE STRUCTURAL PHENOMENOLOGY REVIVED BY THE 1st ZP PUBLICAITON IN 2002- hidden by the aim (driven by fashion) to BRIDGE newcommer ZPs to the emmerging field at the time of Multiferroicity at the expense of a rigourous consideration of the historical/phenomenological understanding of the PCMO phase diagram! That "aim" (= apriori), drove the "conclusion" (= what other remember, mislead...) that Non centrosymmetric space group around x=0.4 (unambiguous in the First ZP article) is (a priori! certainly... not to offend all Khomskii potential friends: experimentalists!) RECOVERED at x=0.5 :

However, by doing so, the Favored Theory has hidden the murk under the carpet = a completely deliberate mix inducing a total confusion regarding how they dealt with the magnetic state away from x=0.5, all acroos the article: it's FALSIFYING the know PHENOMENOLOGY! By BLINDLY supporting Effremov/Khomski, and having no excuse for doing it, because the Specialist is on site but they Abuse him and pereconcieve he is wrong! this article 3D PCMO50 from ISIS-INS pertinently lies, when it states in the abstract that DDEX is "predicting more complex ground states" away from half dopoing, from where you can work out "recipies" to continue to match INS exitation to the supposedly encompassing DDEX theory of PCMO, when data are dealt in linear spin wave theory (i.e, using NN interactions, easierly given by KA rules!), in reality! and the theoretical prediction, model a ground state mismatching the known phenomenology! this is ALL IN ALL...

3) Four years later, in PCMO50 "Now, we compare 4 not 3 models in PCMO, hiding we IN FACT ATTEMPT TO CORRECT the model 3) still... in that case fail to match the model ascribed to ZP, to the Target Symetry: the second model (fig 1.c) is considered only to pretend there is a continuity and focus in a whole group of dedicated INS study. In fact, the 4th model disrupts that continuity making in reality the consideration of the 3nd model (a mistake from start!) IRRELEVANT: that's well reflected in the discussion explaining the exchange parametrisation and in the legend, so hazily...

The magnetically ordered CE-phases is observed in many manganites. One remarkable example is the A-site ordered NaMn7O12, collapsed perovskites showing the lowest Mn-O-Mn angles. Collaborators of this worked argued a lot, but finally agreed how taking all information into account, that specific steric constrains in NaMn7O12 add to the lower bandwith to drive the material back to the "standard Goodenough" ionic Mn3+/Mn4+ model.

THEY CANNOT justify the "Goodenough model is better": in contrary to Radaelli's approach seminal work (PRB1998), DDEX description assume the different (and more recent) spin driven mechanism of Orbital order, ENERGETICALLY, AT THE EXEPENSE of the structural consequences EXPECTED from the seminal Goodenough Model (JT effect) associated to the stabilization of fully localised orbital, onto which relies the GKA super-exchange theory strongly relies!

- The hidden aim of aknowledging a model ascribed to Goodenough, but which conceptually opposite to Goodenough approach, is to antagonise a DDEX theory (modern) with the outsider ZP model (novel), make it a childish technical fight (which neutron technique is best?), in a verbosing pseudo-scientific narrative pretending INS superiority, including the distinction of the competing symmetries (the P21/m common to the Goodenough Model AND the DDEX, and the P21 n m associated to ZP confusing all with an amalgam! about the Dual nature of the P 21/m, which gets nowaday an interpretation (DDEX) challenging Goodenough. BUT, in the conception of the tested model, they litterally missed the test of the model with right ZP symetry: in other words, they talked about ZP for years to discard it systematically and arbitrarily, but in reality,

they bluffed everybody and never ever
touched the root physics of ZP (its symetry):
it has litterally been a unacessible dream,
to them - they've arbitrarily killed!

- The last work of Oxford Crystallography also make the same Symmetry choice (P21/m) excluding implicitely ZP from the discussion, HOWEVER I stress this choice (epistemically) associates now to (historically) opposite and classic CO+ionic+GKA description (and, that's the epistemological glitch - all the chosen CITATION of PCMO are from articles dating from before 2001, all relying on the JT, Ionic CO/OO, GKA based approach to the rich transformation of the CE to pCE magnetic state in PCMO!). This Choice, is in Reality a falsification of both ZP (structure+mag) AND the INS (mag limited) collegues' work & information THEY ARE IN FACT FULLY AWARE OF (BOTH).
