THE wife of an Oxford University professor found dead at the home of a fellow academic [] Dr Devinder Sivia, 49, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday night [] the body [] found at his home in Southmoor, Oxfordshire.

After[] Dr Sivia was released on police bail today, Prof Rawlings’s wife Linda rallied to support him. In a statement issued through Thames Valley Police, Mrs Rawlings said: “I do not believe that Steve’s death is murder [] Steve was a well-loved, caring, intelligent, sensitive man. Steve and Devinder were best friends since college and I believe this is a tragic accident. Steve was a man of integrity, kindness [and other praises…] I will miss him more than anything else [] Sivia is esteemed lecturer” version=”a”>

Prof Rawlings, 50, was believed to have been injured during an assault and suffered a heart attack. Officers sealed off the home of Dr Sivia and launched a murder investigation.

Cops and paramedics discovered his body after neighbours dialled 999 to report “an incident” [but the Gardian says, Sivia called the neighbours, FIRST and they found the body dead so it's contradictory !].

Sources said it was suspected that the pair, who specialise in physics, chemistry and astrophysics, had argued over educational matters. The men had been friends for years and even wrote two books together. It is believed the two men — who had known each other for 15 years — may have attended the St John’s College “feast” on Wednesday night before the tragedy
occurred at around 11.30pm [hence they may have met in a Formal Social event you have to quite mentally fit enough to go to ! and Linda, in email contact all day with Sivia, should have known this !]. The feast is a formal dinner held regularly in the main hall of the college. All the dons attend the bash and bring a guest.

Detectives and specialist family liaison officers broke news of Prof Rawlings’ death to his wife Linda [.. the Guardian says Sivia emailed her, - with or without neighbors, BEFORE the police & medics came after!].

Dr Sivia’s stunned neighbour Duncan Logan, 52, said the two men were “the best of friends”. The builder said: “I can’t believe what I’m hearing It’s like a bolt from the blue. They were nice, gentle, well-spoken, polite and hard-working people. I am proud to have had both as friends. I never heard them row. They seemed to respect each other enormously [] no idea what might have happened.

An Oxford University professor, who was receiving treatment for mental health [] became "like a man possessed", said mathematician Dr Devinder Sivia, who had invited him [Pr Steven Rawlings] to stay the night at his home in Southmoor, Oxfordshire because of concerns over his mental wellbeing.

Minutes after the death [neighbors present or no, se bellow ?], Sivia emailed Rawlings' wife, who was in America on business, to say: "I'm terribly sorry but I have killed him, sorry, Devinder," Oxford coroner's court heard. [] She had been in email contact with Sivia throughout the day to get updates on her husband's condition, she told the hearing. After Sivia emailed [] she spoke to him on the phone as paramedics, then police, arrived at his bungalow.

"Devinder was crying and said: 'I have killed my best friend,'" she said. She then [hence, after neighbor come to see the body first] heard the police arresting him. Rawlings, 50, [] had been hospitalised after suffering an acute psychotic episode in April 2011 and had been unwell in the days leading up to his death on 11 January. On the day he died, he had not taken the medication prescribed by his doctor. He and Sivia, 49, had been friends since [long time]. Sivia, a mathematics lecturer at St John's College, Oxford, and former Nasa employee, was arrested on suspicion of murder but later released without charge.

The inquest heard Rawlings had become increasingly stressed after working during the Christmas period and was "drifting in and out of reality". "I got the impression he thought I had brought him home for sex. I was confused; [sex making such confusion leading to a fight, acceptable ?...]" Sivia said, "All of a sudden he took up a statuesque pose [] with his fists closed and a menacing look in his eyes. Then he said quietly: "I am going to kill you. » [hard to judge the level of threat, the distances and movement not stated to estimate Sivia's reaction time from here to there :] Rawlings punched Sivia [so «suddenly also», as th pose was taken ?...], and [so…] the pair scuffled [was there really no other option ??? Sivia was at HIS home ! he could have/SHOULD simply treid to escaped the fight with such an allegedly mad man especially if...]. "He was screaming 'you're going to die, you're going to die,'" said Sivia. [And who died, in the end ! ?!? who helped ! ] cut off Rawlings' air supply [DEATH BY STRANGULATION !], causing cardiac arrest [MELLOWED]. Sivia told the hearing that Rawlings uttered "goodbye cruel world" before his body went limp ». [] a line from a Pink Floyd song, []. « I thought [Assuption ; again] this might be a ploy [] [so he's in right to keep headlocking him, then, leaves the limped body wqithout even trying to see the state of his suffering freind ? and instead, wait how long before... ?] until neighbours, whom he had called , [When ???] arrived and turned Rawlings over to reveal his face was blue.

Forensic [confirms its self-defence : an accident…] A neighbour of Rawlings, Jim Birch, said Rawlings was "on edge"on the day of his death and talked about resigning from work [hence corroborate his madness…] … " [Sivia stressing again they were] "eldest and closest friends but [Rawlings] was suffering from acute psychosis. [] delusion and paranoia [] got the better of him and my attempt to help Steve in his relapse [where' the help ?] came to a nightmarish end. " [a deadly fight !] "overwhelmed" by the "unconditional support" [] from "Linda and Steve's family, despite their intense grief".
